I really liked how the boys gave their destiny a try, and it failed. This is, of course, enhanced through the use of stories about these supporting character’s own lives, not just their interactions with the main characters. In fact, there isn’t a single character in the book with a name that doesn’t have a purpose. Overall, the supporting characters in the novel do nothing but enhance the story being told. It’s a non-classical coming of age story for not one, but two characters. What has really stuck with me is how the parents of the two boys- Ari and Dante- helped them discover themselves. There was constant character development throughout, and it all helped make the ending make more sense. However, the author kept this book entertaining. Normally, when I figure out early on how a book needs to end, I lose a significant amount of interest in that book. I am not sure exactly when I figured out how the book had to end, but I would estimate that was about 30% in. I listened to it during one work day and I was hooked early on.
